Getting my camera to look good on video calls and podcasts has been a long running frustration. I’ve been through loads of cameras and tools, but never quite got the colours right, so I either look sunburnt or completely flat.

The usual fix is a LUT. But the good ones you download were graded for someone else’s scene, so on your own feed they rarely look right and you end up dialling the intensity way down or piling tweaks on top.

The other option is recording your feed, grading it in DaVinci Resolve (or similar), exporting a LUT and importing it into whatever webcam tool you use. Fine, until you want to change something, and then you’re back in Resolve relearning the whole process.

So, I built a Mac app called LUTcam. You create and tune the LUT live on your own camera feed, and it comes out the other end as a virtual camera you can use in any app (Zoom, Meet, Restream, etc).

I want to get it into people’s hands before I spend too long fine-tuning it. I’ve got a long list of ideas already, but using it as it is feels so much nicer than any camera app I’ve tried!
